|Our next walks from the Summer Programme:
Saturday 28th May 2016
Our next walks from the summer programme will be on a full day, finishing at Hawkshead on Saturday 28th May 2016.
The ‘A’' walk will be led by John Mountford and starts from Yewtree Farm on the A593 just outside Coniston. From the farm we ascend to Holme Fell (1040ft), where from the summit we have excellent views of Coniston water. We then descend in a north west direction to join a pathway passing a huge quarry and onto Hodge Close. Following this pathway we eventually emerge at the A593 where we cross into the Arnside plantation. The route then ascends to Black Crag (1060ft) with views of Tarn Hows, Coniston & Esthwaite Waters before descending through Pullscar plantation and walking southwards to ascend through Iron Keld Plantation (775ft) and joining a pathway onto Knipe Fold and a short road walk to a track leading to Hawkshead Hill and through lanes and fields to Hawkshead village. 9.1 miles with a total ascent of 2,474 ft; the highest point beiing 1,060 ft.
The 'B' walk will be led by Norma Nicholls and is a circular from the centre of Hawkshead walking in an easterly direction crossing the B5285 over to Crofts Head and Colthouse gently climbing through the plantation, and descending down to Belle Grange before heading north along the lake side to High Wray Bay, followed by a short road walk to join the bridleway along the side of Belham Tarn, to How Tock How, Birkwray Farm and crossing fields back into town. 7¾ miles and approx 600ft of ascent.
The ’C’ walk will be led by Colette Follett and is a circular from Hawkshead, taking field paths via Hole House to Wray Castle. On return it is a short road walk and then fields to Outgate passing Blelham Tarn and Spicka Coppice before crossing more fields to Loanthwaite Lane and into Hawkshead. 5½ miles and undulating.
