Our next walks from the Winter Programme 2014/15:

Saturday 4th April 2015

HEBDEN BRIDGE

FULL DAY

Our next  walks from the winter programme will be on a full day, finishing at Hebden Bridge on Saturday 4th April 2015.

The ‘A’ walk will be led by Brian Townson and starts from the caravan sales shop in Lydgate, with a steep ascent through woodland, then fields and farm tracks to Todmorden Edge (1,000 ft) before descending to Dobroyd Castle and into Todmorden.  We then take the Calderdale Way for a short distance and ascend to Rake End and Gaddrings Dam, joining the Pennine Way to Stoodley Pike Monument (1,200 ft) before descending on the Pennine Bridleway into Hebden Bridge via Lower Rough Head and Horsehold.  10 miles, undulating and approx. 2,400 ft of climb.

The "B" walk will be led by Linda Mills and starts just before Hebden Bridge, walking up past the church and into Eaves Wood, then steeply upwards to Heptonstall where we will spend a little time viewing the remains of an ancient church before proceeding downwards through tracks and woodland to Midgehole. We cross Hebden Water at New Bridge and follow it through woodland to Gibson Mill before a short climb to Hardcastle Craggs. We proceed upwards through Walshaw Wood and turn to join the bridleway to take us to Shackleton, passing Lady Royd Farm and Mansfield House and descending through woodland to New Bridge before crossing a footbridge to follow the river to Hebden Bridge. 8 miles, 1,597 ft and undulating.

The ’C’ walk will be led by Colette Follett and starts at the Wharf in Sowerby Bridge, following the Rochdale Canal along the towpath to Hebden Bridge. Due to ongoing repair work we may have small diversions along the way. Mostly flat and easy walking. No stiles and just over 5 miles.

Non-walkers are always welcome to book on the coach.
