The purpose of the Club is to promote fellwalking and a love and respect for the countryside.

We walk every alternate Saturday.

Saturday 1st October 2016

WHALLEY

HALF DAY

 

Our next walks from the summer programme will be on a half day, finishing at Whalley on Saturday 1st October 2016.
 
The ‘A’' walk will be led by Grace Green and starts from Spring Wood taking the path towards Clerk Hill. The route is then mainly field paths via Lower Clerk Hill, Hollins Farm, through Hodgeon Stone Plantation and down to Houlker's Farm. From here we head north to New Hall and along the edge of Robinsons Wood onto a footpath into Sabden. There is a short road walk through Sabden to Chew Barn. At Dry Corner the path takes us over  fields, crossing Sabden Brook, then north to Heyhouses and Church Clough before turning west at Calf Hill towards the Nick of Pendle. From here we keep to the path which passes below Wiswell Wireless Station and Bramley Farm back to Spring Wood and into Whalley. Approx 8½ miles. Overall height about 1600 ft.
  
The 'B' walk will be led by Carol Hurst and is a circular walk from Spring Wood picnic site, walking besides the wood on the edge of the golf course, up through fields to Clerk Hill and then down to the Clerk Hill Road. After a short road walk we cut through fields going down Lower Clerk Hill to Whalley Road. Crossing the road we continue on, walking beside Sabden Brook to pass through Hodgeon Stone Plantation to Back Lane which we follow for a short distance before walking through fields to lead us to Read Hall, through Read Park and down to cross over the A680. We then walk alongside the River Calder, heading down toward Rodger Hey (brook), turning to pass Squires Farm and heading back on Deans Lane up through Whalley Banks and Whalley Nab back to Whalley. Distance 7½ miles approx with an ascent of approx 540ft.
 
The ’C’ walk will be led by by Jenny Hebblethwaite and starts in Whalley crossing the bridge of the river Calder to a climb along Whalley Banks to Heys Farm then rejoining the river to walk along the banks to Cock Bridge, Read Park and Portfield then skirting the Golf Course and picnic area and back into Whalley. 5½ miles with one climb at the beginning of the walk and 600 ft of ascent.
      

PICKUP TIME: 11am from Torrisholme Church of the Ascension, Torrisholme

MAJORCA HOLIDAY
3rd-10th October 2016

It will soon be our Majorca holiday and I will shortly be sending out times for the coach pickups to the airport.  Transport is arranged through Travellers and pickups will commence in Carnforth at 5am.  The remaining pickup times will be advised as soon as I get them from Travellers.

We now have leaders for the 3 days of walking which Graham has arranged and your itinerary will be sent to you as soon as I receive the pickup times from Travellers and the joining instructions from Jet2Holidays.


  WESTON-SUPER-MARE HOLIDAY
8th-12th April 2017

We are planning to go to Wewton-Super-Mare for next year's rambling holiday.  This will be a 5 day holiday (Saturday to Wednesday) and the venue is the Anchor Head Hotel in the seaside town of Weston-Super-Mare. 

If you would like to join us on our holiday, please complete the booking form which is presently being sent out to members and send, together with your cheque for £40pp to Linda Mountford, Treasurer. 

This holiday is for all members, even if you do not wish to walk and we hope as many as possible will join us.

Our winter social programme commences with our usual Hotpot Supper and Quiz.  Remember that you need to book Hotpot Supper meals so that the caterer can cater for the correct number.  Please book with the Treasurer, Linda Mountford, or your Committee Member.
