Our next walks from the Winter Programme 2016:

Saturday 6th February 2016

ILKLEY

FULL DAY

Our next walks from the winter programme will be on a full day, finishing at Ilkley on Saturday 6th February 2016.

The ‘A’' walk will be led by John Mountford and starts from the top of Wells Road, walking in an easterly direction along the Millennium Way ascending Rocky Valley and following the path across to the ‘Cow and Calf’ rocks, which is a view point over Ilkley and beyond. We then continue ascending to Burley Moor, passing the High Lanshaw Dam before turning in a westerly direction to the Twelve Apostles Stone Circle. From the circle we continue to the Trig point at 1319ft and onto the Stanza and Thimble stones. We follow the high path along to Long Ridge End where we descend once again onto the Millennium Way turning in an easterly direction. This route passes by the Swastika Stone (Bronze age), and a reservoir down to our starting point. From here it is a short walk into Ilkley town. 10 miles with a total ascent of 1,500 ft.

The 'B' walk will be led by Pat and Martin Hamer and from the drop-off point will walk up to the Cow and Calf viewpoint for lunch to hopefully see some rock climbers.  From there we make our way up and across the moor to High Lanshaw Dam passing cup and ring marked stones along the way and then on to Horncliffe Well to pick up the Dales High way and pass the Twelve Apostles stone circle on our way to the trig point.  We continue past the Stanza and the Thimble Stones to Whetstone Gate before turning down onto Keighley Road and back into Ilkley.  Total ascent 800ft and 7.2 miles some muddy patches to be expected but for the most part good underfoot on well defined paths.

The ’C’ walk will be led by Madge & Ray Salisbury and starts on the Bolton Road (B6160) close to Lobwood House. From here we join the Dales Way, walking towards Ilkley and following the River Wharfe to Addingham and on to St Peters Church. We continue via some quiet roads and on to the river bank again. On reaching the end of the Dales Way we walk through the Riverside Gardens to the centre of Ilkley. Nearly 5 miles with an ascent of 175 feet and descent of 235 feet.
