Our next walks from the Winter Programme:

Saturday 1st April 2017

BROUGHTON-IN-FURNESS

FULL DAY

Our penultimate walks from the winter programme will be on a full day, finishing at Broughton in Furness on Saturday 1st April 2017.

The ‘A’ walk will be led by David Hartley and starts at Grizebeck on the A595, walking south up Back Lane (TK) to Chapels and up to Kirkby Moor under the wind farm and over the slate quarry (still working) from here we drop down onto the A595 then straight up Great Burney across the fell to Toottlebank were we climb up to Blawith Knot crossing the ridge to Woodland Fell and on to Tomstead, continuing across farm land to the dismantled railway and into Broughton. 2,000ft and 12 miles.

The ‘B’ walk will be led by Robin Bamber and starts from Torver, following a lane past Moor Farm and round Torver Common to Greaves Ground where we pick up a lane past Haveriggholme to Woodland Grove.  From there we take the path through the woods to High Rosthwaite and on to Buttstead Wood.  A short road walk then takes us on to the old railway line and a level walk into Broughton in Furness.  7  easy miles with a few undulations and a maximum height reached of 440ft.

The ’C’ walk will be led by Madge Salisbury and Alan Williams and is a circular from the Square, entering West Park, then walking in a north-easterly direction through East Park following a gradually rising path through fields until it reaches the A593. We walk along the road for about 350 yards until the junction with the minor (and very quiet) road towards Woodland. This road goes over the former railway and is left by joining the bridleway going through Buttstead Wood. At the end of the bridleway another quiet road is followed for 400 yards until the old railway track is taken towards Broughton. After one mile Broughton Tower Park is entered and then on into the Square. 5 miles and 525 feet.
