|Our next walks from the Summer Programme:
Saturday 20th August 2016
Our next walks from the summer programme will be on a full day, finishing at Bolton Abbey on Saturday 20th August 2016.
The ‘A’' walk will be led by Linda Mills and is a circular starting from the car park at Bolton Abbey, walking to the Cavendish Pavillion for toilets, then following the Dalesway along the river Wharfe, through Strid Wood, crossing the river at Barden Bridge, continuing along the Dalesway to Howgill, ascending Howgill Lane to Dalehead Farm and Simons Seat. Descent is via Truckle Crags and Long Crag to Great Agill Bottom then through the Sheepshaw Plantation and the Valley of Desolation to Posforth Bridge before rejoining the Dalesway following the river Wharfe into Bolton Abbey. A beautiful walk with wonderful views on the descent from Simons Seat. 11 miles and 1,591ft.
The 'B' walk will be led by Carol Hurst and is a circular starting from Bolton Abbey with a short road walk to a footpath crossing fields to Westy Bank Wood, leading onto moorland heading for Middle Harehead and crossing the road to Strid Wood, approaching river up to Barden Tower and crossing at Barden Bridge. We than follow the riverside path, through Strid Wood, passing the Cavendish Pavillion and returning to the Priory. Approx 8 miles with 870ft ascent and undulating.
The ’C’ walk will be led by Brian Townson and is a circular starting from the car park, walking down towards the river Wharfe and along the path towards the Strid. We then continue to Barden Bridge, crossing over to follow the river path back to Bolton Abbey. Good paths, undulating in parts and no stiles. 6 miles.
