Our next walks from the Summer Programme:

Saturday 23rd June 2018

Our next walks from the summer programme will be on a full day, finishing at Horton-in-Ribblesdale on Saturday 23rd June 2018.
The A walk will be led by John Mountford and starts from Langcliffe Village crossing the River Ribble by a weir to join the Ribble Way and turn northwards past Stainforth Force and through Little Stainforth to follow lanes to Helwith Bridge.  Following a long ascent up Long Lane track to the base of Pen y ghent, we ascend via the ‘classic route’ which involves a short scramble to the summit (2277 ft), offering panoramic views.  From there we walk westwards descending along the Pennine Way to follow a small diversion to ‘Hull Pot’ and then southwards along the Pennine Journey into Horton-in-Ribblesdale. 11.3 miles with 2,140 ft of accumulative ascent: 2140 ft, the highest point being 2277 ft.
The B walk will be led by Linda Mountford, and is a circular from the car park in Horton in Ribblesdale, crossing the river via a wooden bridge to join the Ribble Way, which follows the river through fields to Helwith Bridge. Crossing the bridge at Helwith, we head north up Long Lane a track which ascends to the south side of Pen-y-ghent, enjoying views to the west. At the base of Pen-y-ghent we head west making our way back down into Horton in Ribblesdale, via Brackenbottom Scar. 7.6 miles with an accumulative ascent of 1,200 ft, the highest point being 1,757 ft

The C walk will be led by Kevin Gaughan and is a linear starting at Langcliffe, with a short walk north along the B6479 to cross the River Ribble by footbridge before heading north along the east side of the river, on the Ribble Way/Dales Highway. Looking east we can see Stainforth Scar. We then pass Stainforth Force waterfall and join the Pennine Bridleway passing through Little Stainforth to head north along a small lane. We then leave the Bridleway to go by Helwith Bridge Quarry, then down into Helwith Bridge for lunch by the pub before continuing northwards to return to the Ribble Way, with fine views of Pen-Y-Ghent, and into Horton in Ribblesdale.  6 miles. 9 stiles. Accumulative ascent 546 feet.
