Our first walks from the Summer Programme 2015:

Saturday 2nd May 2015

Our first walks from the summer programme will be on a full day, finishing at Brampton on Saturday 2nd May 2015.
The ‘A’ walk will be led byTom Hodgson and starts at Crosby-on-Eden where we take a lane to join the Hadrians Wall Path.  This takes us via Newtown and Walton leaving the path at Milecastle 54 on to Lanercost Priory. From here we follow a river path to join the Brampton Ridge back into Brampton via the Mote. A good 10 miles and undulating.
The "B" walk will be led by Madge and Ray Salisbury and starts from Birdoswald Roman Fort, taking the Hadrian’s Wall Path westwards. The route follows the Turf Wall for two miles across fields and through woodland with good views, followed by about a third of a mile on the road with the chance to view the remains of Turret 51B. Back on to paths again and in just under a mile we reach the Signal Station. A good spot to take lunch.   We continue via Banks to Haytongate where we turn south, passing close to Lanercost Priory, over the old Abbey Bridge and up the hill towards Boothby. From here we ascend on to Brampton Ridge –a beautiful woodland with views northwards into Scotland then down into Brampton. Just over 7 miles with 6 stiles. Ascent = 620 feet. Descent = 860 feet.
The ’C’ walk will be led by Colette Follett and starts on the outskirts of Brampton at Capentree Road, following paths and lanes to Tarn Road and Talkin Tarn. After walking round the tarn, we take a field path and lane to Brampton Station and then follow the disused railway line into Brampton. Just over 5 miles and mostly flat walking.

Non-walkers are always welcome to book on the coach if there are spaces.

What a brilliant holiday we had in Torquay.  The weather was warm and sunny, and Torquay is a lovely place with lots for everyone to do whether walking or not.  The hotel and food were very good and our meal on the way home at the Toby Carvery was excellent.

Your Committee are now meeting to discuss next year's walking holiday, so watch this space ...
